During the 2023 Lent and Easter season, Ēriks’ work Passion and Resurrection will be performed in the US, Australia, and Finland.
On 30 and 31 March and 1 April, Passion and Resurrection will be performed by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and Sydney Philharmonia Choirs under the direction of Stephen Layton at Sydney Opera House, alongside Bach’s Magnificat in D and Pärt’s Trisagion.
Pacific Lutheran University Choral Union and Chamber Ochestra with conductor Richard Nance will perform Passion and Resurrection as part of their concert programme In the midst of your hands… in the Lagerquist Concert Hall at PLU’s Mary Baker Russell Music Center on 18 March. The concert will be livestreamed.
On 19 and 22 April, the Oratorio Choir of Helsinki, the Helsinki Metropolitan Orchestra, and conductor Håkan Wikman will perform Passion and Resurrection under their concert programme Omnis Terra at the Art Factory in Porvoo / Borgå.
Scored for soloist, mixed choir, and string orchestra, Passion and Resurrection is a 30-minute oratorio in four movements combining Latin and English texts from Scripture and Catholic and Byzantine liturgies. It includes a quotation from de Morales’ Parce mihi, Domine. Passion and Resurrection was commissioned and premiered in 2005 and first recorded in 2006 by State Choir Latvija, the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra, and conductor Māris Sirmais. It was also recorded by Polyphony, Britten Sinfonia, and Stephen Layton in 2010 and released on their 2011 album of the same title on Hyperion, and most recently by the Portland State Chamber Choir and Ethan Sperry on their 2017 album The Doors of Heaven on Naxos.
